Cláudio Torres – Mértola Museum

At the Chamber Meeting of September 7, 2022, the update of the Internal Regulations of the Museum of Mértola was unanimously approved, where the most relevant change is related to its new name – Museum of Mértola – Cláudio Torres. This is a well-deserved tribute and recognition for over 40 years of work in favor of the preservation and enhancement of the heritage of the municipality of Mértola, which has a strong expression in the 14 centers of the Museum of Mértola. Textile Residence with Mértola Weaving Workshop – Museo del Tessuto di Prato

The first Textile Residence with the Cooperativa de Tecelagem de Mértola took place in 2022 as part of the Creative Wear + Project, co-financed by INTERREG MED, having as partners the Passa ao Futuro Association, the Arteria Lab of the University of Évora and the Museo del Tessuto di Plate (Italy). Drawn Surfaces Exhibition: Mértola Islamic Ceramics and Textile Design

The 2nd year students pursuing the Fashion Design Degree of the University of Lisbon Faculty of Architecture were challenged to explore textile technologies to obtain designs on the textile surface. International Museum Day

The International Museum Day, celebrated annually on 18 May, was created in 1977 by the International Council of Museums – ICOM with the aim of promoting reflection on the role of museums in society. For 2022, ICOM proposes the theme ‘The Power of Museums’ aiming to explore the potential of museums to bring about positive change in their communities and to build a better future. Textile Design Residencies at the Mértola Weaving Workshop

Within the scope of the partnership that Mértola City Council maintains with the Association Passa Ao Futuro and Cooperativa Oficina de Tecelagem (Weaving Workshop Cooperative), the residency ALENTEJO HERITAGE TEXTILES took place during the months of March and April, connecting the weavers of the Mértola Weaving Workshop with designers Emma Pucci and Valentina Pilia from Flores Textile Studio, as well as maker Daniel Heer and artist Cian McConn from the Machen Colletive.
