Alcaria dos Javazes

Located in Alcaria dos Javazes, about 20 km south of Mértola, this museum is the result of a partnership between City Council, a private collector, and Espírito Santo Parish Council.

It is quite original, not only due to the way it was built, but also for establishing a connection between objects, people, their experiences, and the territory where they live. Nowadays, in this old village house, we can see everyday objects transformed into museum objects, telling us about memories from the old days marked by simplicity and modesty, but also by all kinds of hardships and shortages

These are the memories told by the collection of Orlando José, a man who kept pieces of history throughout his life, revealing them in the temporary theme-based exhibitions organized by this museum.
