Objects from the Cláudio Torres Mértola Museum included in a Temporary Exhibition at the Alhambra Monumental Complex, in Granada (Spain)

Five objects from the permanent exhibition of the Islamic Art museum were transported last week to the Alhambra and Generalife Monumental Complex, in Granada (Spain), where they will be included in the Temporary Exhibition “La ceramica Nazari – Contextos e Proyección”, which will be on display at the Palacio Carlos V Temporary Exhibition Room, from 26 September 2024 to 12 January 2025. The main aim of this exhibition, curated by Jaume Coll and Rafael Lopez Guzmán, is to update and revise knowledge about the use of ceramics in the Nazari culture, highlighting the technical, social, economic and iconographic aspects, in order to obtain the most global perception possible of the importance of ceramic production and its spread to all the territories of the Iberian Peninsula and the West.

The Mértola Museum’s collection includes 3 stamped carvings and 2 ‘cuerda seca’ bowls, exemplary in technical, decorative and iconographic terms, dating from the 2nd half of the 12th century/1st half of the 13th century A.D. Due to their exemplary nature, it’s not the first time they’ve been asked to take part in exhibitions in other museums, both national and foreign, which is an excellent opportunity to promote the Museum and the work we do here in various areas.

The objects will return to the ‘Núcleo de Arte Islâmica’ (Islamic Art Museum) permanent exhibition in January 2025, when you can visit us to enjoy them. However, given the collection’s diversity, there are plenty of reasons for you to visit us any time. Visit www.museudemertola.pt and check out all the possibilities.
