Exhibition of paintings by Moulay Youssef Elkahfaï – The Return. Le Retour

One of the leading names in Moroccan contemporary painting, Moulay Youssef Elkahfaï was born in Marrakesh, where he lives and works. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts of Tetouan and currently organises and runs an Engraving and Silkscreen workshop in Marrakesh at the École Supérieure des Arts Visuels. Drawn Surfaces Exhibition: Mértola Islamic Ceramics and Textile Design

The 2nd year students pursuing the Fashion Design Degree of the University of Lisbon Faculty of Architecture were challenged to explore textile technologies to obtain designs on the textile surface. Within the curricular module of Fashion Materials II, they studied ceramic pieces from the catalogue of the Mértola Archaeological Site. International Museum Day

The International Museum Day, celebrated annually on 18 May, was created in 1977 by the International Council of Museums – ICOM with the aim of promoting reflection on the role of museums in society. For 2022, ICOM proposes the theme ‘The Power of Museums’ aiming to explore the potential of museums to bring about positive change in their communities and to build a better future. Textile Design Residencies at the Mértola Weaving Workshop

Within the scope of the partnership that Mértola City Council maintains with the Association Passa Ao Futuro and Cooperativa Oficina de Tecelagem (Weaving Workshop Cooperative), the residency ALENTEJO HERITAGE TEXTILES took place during the months of March and April, connecting the weavers of the Mértola Weaving Workshop with designers Emma Pucci and Valentina Pilia from Flores Textile Studio, as well as maker Daniel Heer and artist Cian McConn from the Machen Colletive. Exhibition ‘The signs of everyday life – gestures, marks and symbols in the Al-Ândalus’

The exhibition ‘The signs of everyday life – gestures, marks and symbols in the Al-Ândalus’, developed by the Mértola Archaeological Site, with the collaboration of the Mértola Museum, will be on display at the Arraiolos Carpet Interpretation Centre, in Arraiolos, from 11 March to 22 May 2022.
