Establishing contact with the local community has always been one of the main goals of the Mértola Museum. In this context, and with the goal of achieving greater proximity while knowing that people don’t always visit the Museum, we go and meet people in places where they enjoy moments of social interaction and entertainment.
This is how the Museu de Mértola is built! At the Honey, Cheese and Bread Fair Feira do Mel, Queijo e Pão, which takes place on the last weekend of April and coincides with the Annual April Fair, the Museum goes to the Fair. Using objects from its collections, the Museum sets up a theme-based exhibition related to the Fair and promotes direct contact with visitors.
It works with proximity, a sense of belonging, and collective memory and identity with a simple and accessible language, which favors direct contact and the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and know-how.
