Since 2017, in the months of June, July, August, and September, the Museum has been developing several initiatives related to Archaeology at the Campo Arqueológico de Mértola.
These activities aim to publicize Mértola’s Heritage, the Museum’s archaeology collections, and to share knowledge and provide direct contact with archaeological excavations.
The exhibition ‘Living Museum. The Museum is Out on the Streets!’ which includes the exhibition of objects from the Museum in unlikely places such as City Council and Parish Council services, the Municipal Library, the local Health Unit, Banks, among others;
A programme to promote volunteer work at the Alcazaba and Castle Hill excavations, which brings together young people from national and foreign universities and from the Mértola School Group in a wholesome exchange of knowledge and experiences;
Meetings and theme-based conferences;
Theme-based workshops that include archaeological excavations, registration and conservation of objects.
