The International Day for Monuments and Sites was created by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) on 18 April 1982, and approved by UNESCO the following year, with the aim of raising awareness to the diversity of heritage and the need for its preservation and appreciation. In 2021, after a complicated year in all dimensions of our lives, the theme chosen was Complex Pasts: Diverse Futures.
Within the scope of these commemorations, the Mértola Museum presents the work that it develops and that is not always visible, allowing us to discover the path travelled by an object until it reaches the Museum’s display window. This is a specialised and complex job that is the result of the experienced hands of many people who allow us to discover the past and help us plan the future. Visit us virtually at www.museudemertola.pt or in person in Mértola. We’re ready to welcome you!
