Exhibition ‘Teresa Magalhães, um pouco mais longe’, curated by José Alexandre de S. Marcos
Galeria de Exposições do Castelo de Mértola (Mértola Castle Exhibition Gallery) – 23 September to 26 November 2022
About Teresa Magalhães’ painting, José Saramago wrote, ‘it seems to me that each of these paintings was suddenly immobilised, stopped at a precise instant of a successive and multiform transformation process (…) the world as a kaleidoscope, meaning as movement‘.
Here, in a choice that crosses several decades of painting and several continents, another return to this device is proposed, this time in Mértola, a place of cultural transparency.
‘Um pouco mais longe‘ (A bit further away) presents paintings that have travelled to extremely distant places, namely Australia, Japan, China, Monte Carlo or S. Paulo, always carrying a marked joie de vivre, so characteristic of the artist, in her never repeated, never finished, but always identifiable journey. An almost balletic universe, musical, free, with the freedom to be. A voluptuous work of poetic sensitivity and formal quality, demanding as it engages the gaze and the intellect on a journey of discovery and reunion.
