Between 27 and 29 October, the greatest specialists in Roman sculpture will be meeting in Faro and Mértola, in the context of the 10th Meeting of Roman Sculpture in Hispania, which is being organised in Portugal for the second time. The choice of Faro and Mértola for this prestigious scientific meeting is largely justified by the fact that recently some of Algarve’s sculptures, present in the municipal museums of Faro and Lagos, were awarded the status of national treasures, given their exceptional nature; on the other hand, one of the most significant and important finds of Roman sculptures in the Iberian Peninsula in recent years occurred in Mértola, the place to visit on the last day of the Meeting where a lecture will be given by a specialist from the University of Rome.
The combined efforts of the University of Algarve, through the Research Centre in Archaeology, Art and Heritage (CEAACP), the University of Lisbon through the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Municipalities of Faro and Mértola and the Directorate for Culture of the Algarve, made it possible to organise this event open to the interested public, with free admission but with compulsory registration at [email protected].
