Another excavation campaign took place on the Mértola Castle Slopes between 3 and 28 July 2023, with scientific coordination by the Mértola Archaeological Site and technical and logistical support by the Mértola City Council. The campaign involved 10 young Portuguese and Spanish university students, guided by the CAM team, in the Castle Slopes, at the area closest to the cemetery access road. The main objective was to continue the work begun previously, with the aim of clarifying the exhumed structures, whose results will provide a better understanding of Mértola’s Islamic past and which will be disclosed soon.
