Under the terms of the Protocol between the Mértola Municipality and the University of Seville, and in collaboration with ERA Arqueologia, the summer archaeological excavation campaign at the Largo da Feira Necropolis in Mértola began on 13 July. The project is being conducted under the scientific supervision of Dr Pedro Albuquerque and Dr Lúcia Miguel, and will run until 7 August, involving 14 archaeology students from the Universities of Seville and Lisbon, divided into two groups.
The campaign builds on the archaeological work previously carried out at the site and, in addition to the excavation itself, includes training in the maintenance and conservation of archaeological structures, as well as recording and documentation techniques, in collaboration with at the team at the Mértola Museum – Cláudio Torres.
