{"id":19568,"date":"2024-06-18T16:19:24","date_gmt":"2024-06-18T16:19:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.museudemertola.pt\/mertola-caminhos-sonoros-artist-in-the-community-samuel-gapp\/"},"modified":"2024-06-18T16:19:24","modified_gmt":"2024-06-18T16:19:24","slug":"mertola-caminhos-sonoros-artist-in-the-community-samuel-gapp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.museudemertola.pt\/en\/mertola-caminhos-sonoros-artist-in-the-community-samuel-gapp\/","title":{"rendered":"M\u00e9rtola, Caminhos Sonoros \u2013 artist in the community\/Samuel Gapp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><b>M\u00e9rtola, Caminhos Sonoros \u2013 artist in the community\/Samuel Gapp<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">As part of the celebrations for International Museum Day 2024, on 18 May, M\u00e9rtola, Caminhos Sonoros, a musical and literary walk and concert in the Main Church of M\u00e9rtola, was organised in partnership between M\u00e9rtola City Council, the Cl\u00e1udio Torres M\u00e9rtola Museum, the Parish of M\u00e9rtola, the Associa\u00e7\u00e3o Boa Cria\u00e7\u00e3o, the Mina de S\u00e3o Domingos Choir Group, and musician and composer Samuel Gapp, within the scope of an &#8216;artist in the community&#8217; residency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The Musical and Literary Walk aims to &#8216;walk around the town of M\u00e9rtola in the evening, listening to music, stories and poems, rediscovering old places, on a journey between memory, tradition and contemporary creation. This journey invites us to listen, be silent and observe, with our eyes open and closed, culminating in a concert in the Main Church. The concert is based on the <span class=\"s1\"><i>modas <\/i><\/span>of the <span class=\"s1\"><i>cante alentejano<\/i><\/span>, recontextualised through improvisation and contemporary music, incorporating the specific acoustic characteristics of the Main Church of M\u00e9rtola.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Samuel Gapp &#8211; Artist in the Community, pianist and composer, part of the Boa CRIA\u00c7\u00c3O cooperative activity, was in M\u00e9rtola between March and May 2024, to develop various artistic activities in the Town of M\u00e9rtola, in Corte da Velha and in other places in the municipality. The project aims to establish links between art and the community, based on valuing contact with the local community and its history, traditions and cultural characteristics.
