{"id":19432,"date":"2024-05-12T19:02:05","date_gmt":"2024-05-12T19:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.museudemertola.pt\/research-support-collaboration-with-campo-arqueologico-and-the-universities-of-evora-and-frankfurt\/"},"modified":"2024-05-12T19:02:05","modified_gmt":"2024-05-12T19:02:05","slug":"research-support-collaboration-with-campo-arqueologico-and-the-universities-of-evora-and-frankfurt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.museudemertola.pt\/en\/research-support-collaboration-with-campo-arqueologico-and-the-universities-of-evora-and-frankfurt\/","title":{"rendered":"Research support &#8211; collaboration with Campo Arqueol\u00f3gico and the Universities of \u00c9vora and Frankfurt"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\"><b>Research support &#8211; collaboration with Campo Arqueol\u00f3gico and the Universities of \u00c9vora and Frankfurt<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The Museu de M\u00e9rtola Cl\u00e1udio Torres supported the activities carried out as part of the partnership between the Campo Arqueol\u00f3gico de M\u00e9rtola, the University of \u00c9vora&#8217;s History Department and the <span class=\"s1\"><i>Institute or Archaeological Science \u2013 Dept. of Near Eastern Archaeology da Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Universitat Frankfurt am Main<\/i><\/span>, which included researchers, professors and young students.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">This action is part of the multi-year research project &#8216;M\u00e9rtola and its territory: Archaeology, History and Heritage &#8211; <span class=\"s1\"><i>Mertolater<\/i><\/span> 2024&#8242; which aims to study the relationship between the town of M\u00e9rtola and its territory. It is a question of defining the space dependent on the town and its evolution over time, determining the nature of the relationship between the town and the surrounding settlement as well as the evolution of the landscape that has sustained its populations over time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">The activities arising from this line of research are based on the continuous updating of M\u00e9rtola&#8217;s Archaeological Map and the detailed study of some of the sites already registered, using a non-destructive methodology centred on surface archaeological prospection and the recording of the collected information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">In this context, CAM and the Universities of \u00c9vora and Frankfurt carried out an archaeological exploration campaign between 8 and 16 April 2024, aimed at better understanding the settlement of the Islamic period in the municipality of M\u00e9rtola, prioritising the areas to the north of the town and the left bank of the Guadiana.
