They aim to present news from archaeological research, results from ongoing research projects, and to discuss relevant issues in the archaeology of the Southwestern Peninsula, strengthening professional ties among Iberian researchers.<br \/>\nThe 2021 edition will take place on 21, 22 and 23 October in Loul\u00e9 and is organised by the University of the Algarve\/Centre for the Study of Archaeology, Arts and Heritage Sciences (UAlg\/CEAACP), Loul\u00e9 City Council, the Algarve Regional Directorate for Culture and the Alentejo Regional Directorate for Culture.<br \/>\nThe 9th EASP will also feature a tribute to Francisco Gom\u00e9z Toscano, who passed away in 2018. He was a lecturer at the University of Huelva, one of the promoters of the EASP and a researcher who always sought to foster the exchange and sharing of knowledge among archaeologists on both sides of the border.<br \/>\nM\u00e9rtola will be represented by researchers from the Campo Arqueol\u00f3gico de M\u00e9rtola and M\u00e9rtola City Council with the presentation of the following papers:<br \/>\n&#8211; Maria de F\u00e1tima Palma and Bilal Sarr, &#8220;First results of the IACAM project &#8211; Archaeological intervention at Cercas das Alcarias &#8211; Mesquita, M\u00e9rtola. From Hispania to al_\u00c2ndalus: Arabisation, Islamisation and Resistance in the Rural Environment (21 October);<br \/>\n&#8211; Virg\u00edlio Lopes, Clara Rodrigues, Susana G\u00f3mez Martinez, Maria de F\u00e1tima Palma and Marco Fernandes, &#8220;Balance of the archaeological works carried out on the slope of M\u00e9rtola Castle 2020-2021 (21 October);<br \/>\n&#8211; L\u00edgia Rafael, &#8220;The already known problem of &#8220;shards&#8221;: the issue of archaeological reserves&#8221; (21 October)<br \/>\n&#8211; Virg\u00edlio Lopes, &#8220;Early Christianity in the Southern Conventus Pacencis.
